White water rafting in Kenya

White water rafting in Kenya : A sporting adventure firm called Savage Wilderness specialises in kayaking and white water rafting excursions on the Sagana River. It was established in 1990, Sagana Savage Wilderness was the pioneer firm in Kenya to offer rafting and kayaking excursions along the Sagana River. Since its establishment, the Savage Wilderness has constructed the thrilling Sagana River activity camp, where adventurous kids zip line across freezing pools and weary adults grill sausages beside icy pools.

This untamed wilderness Sagana River Camp is located on a peaceful section of the river; here, well-kept lawns encircle a blue pool, and palm trees tower above the golden waves. Sagana River Camp, often known as Savage Wilderness, bills itself as an adventure haven. Kenya safari activities at the camp include rock climbing, archery, zip line, moonlight hikes and an extremely scary bungy jump. Although I found it off-putting before I went, it does accept large groups of corporates or schools, but the grounds are huge, so groups can comfortably coexist without invading one other’s space. I went there and discovered Savage Wilderness to be a tranquil area, where I gazed into the gently running river and enjoyed its fascinating flow while enjoying the feeling the excitement rush through me on the white rapids.

I think this is how it should be; if we wanted to drift down a river peacefully, then we’d SUP, but this is white water rafting on a river filled with crocs and hippos, so what’s the point if you don’t return home with a few grey hairs? Ah, the adrenaline! We went there primarily for the white water rafting, and it was simply fearfully ferociously and  fabulous too.

The guides at Sagana Savage Wilderness are outstanding; even in the face of my daughter’s very dramatic yelling, they remained composed. After being driven upstream, your group will join the boats and spend some time honing your paddling and instruction-following skills. Depending on the water level, your safari will be different; on our safari trip, the first set of rapids was near the beginning and perhaps the hairiest, nearly forcing one kayak to capsize. There are swiftly quiet stretches of the river where you are welcome to jump in and swim around, easing the anxiety of capsizing. The adventure is not all rapids. Among these is the thrilling rock slide into a vortex, known as the amazing Devil’s Toilet Bowl.

I recalled the calm times  I spent floating along the breathtaking Sagana River, even though the youngsters were contented to risk everything in white water. The Sagana River’s Grade 1 to Grade 4 rapids take about three hours to navigate. Kayaks can be used for a rather technical but otherwise similar tour along the river. A multi-day rafting tour that begins higher up the river is also available for booking.

There are two pools at Savage Wilderness, and each has a shelter with a fireplace and a BBQ. In addition to its safari activities like zip line, rock climbing, archery and midnight adventure treks, there’s a bar and pool table on site. Games can also be scheduled on the lawn. Gin and tonic on the grass after a day of white water rafting was about as hard as I was willing to get.

Accommodations in  savage Wilderness

Savage Wilderness offers 33 tidy small bandas that are simple but clean, featuring hot water in the ensuite bathroom and a deck where guests may relax and observe the river’s flow. Please bring your own towels, mosquito nets, and catering supplies. We utilised them for the kids and had bandas for the adults. Savage Wilderness also provides tents with mattresses, blankets, sheets, and pillows. The three-sleeping tents are of high quality, with thick and cosy beds made of canvas. There are adjacent restrooms and showers.

Based on the Sagana River, Sagana Savage Wilderness was established to allow kayaking and rafting on the water to fully appreciate the grandeur of the surrounding landscape. Nonetheless, the business has developed over the past 30 years, becoming one of Kenya’s top adventure trip operators because to its increased professionalism and level of experience. Savage Wilderness was visited by my children’s school not just for team-building but for other safari activities like kayaking and also for school trips up Mount Kenya. In this country, they are a really good alternative for adventurous sports. There are safari trips to visit Mount Kenya, kayaking breaks in the Tana Rivers and Kakamega Forest, Soysambu camel safaris, and Maasai Mara safaris.

Along the Sagana River, there are crocodiles and hippos. But it’s been a long time since any have been spotted close to the Savage Wilderness Camp. An excursion on a white water rafting trip lasts roughly three hours. Four individuals is a minimum need. Bring closed shoes that you are willing to get soaked in. We were able to hire old shoes for a little charge, but we still forgot them. For 2,000 KES per boat, you can hire a photographer to capture pictures during your whole journey. Bedding is provided by bandas and tents, but not towels or amenities. You’ll have to pack your own.
