Kenya Big Five safari

Kenya Big Five safari Africa : The “Big 5” safari animals are the stars of any safari to Africa. These are the animals that many people think of when they think of a trip to the desert. We’re talking about how the lion, leopard, African horse, elephant, and rhinoceros look in their wild forms. The name “Big Five” comes from the days when game shooters in the colonies found it hard to hunt these beautiful animals on foot and kill them. We humans are lucky that, for the most part, we no longer try to get rid of these natural gifts through the law. Instead, we try to protect and keep them.

On a safari in Kenya, you’ll have plenty of chances to see these famous animals and even get close to them in our country’s large national parks for wildlife.

The Lion King.

When going on safari, it would be hard not to hope to see the “king of the jungle.” Luckily, many groups of lions live in a few of Kenya’s parks. The Tsavo Parks are home to an interesting sub-species of lions called Tsavo lions. The males of this sub-species have unusually short manes, which is how they got their name.

Samburu Park in the north and Amboseli Park on the border with Tanzania are both places where safari-goers can see these dangerous cats. But if you want to see a lot of groups and, by extension, lions, you have to go to the Masai Mara. The park and the conservancies around it are the best places to see these big predators in action, especially during the Great Migration (July to October).

The Always Elusive Leopard.

The leopard is slim and mysterious, and it hunts at night, between sunset and dawn. From its natural perch high on a tree branch, this graceful predator scans the landscape for antelope, gazelle, zebra, or wildebeest, which are the grazers it usually eats.

Leopards can be found in the Masai Mara, Amboseli, and Tsavo Parks, as well as in smaller areas like Nakuru National Park and Ol Pejeta Conservancy. At Ol Pejeta, you can go on treks at night, which gives you a better chance of seeing animals.

Elephants – Africa’s Giants.

The huge elephant walks through most of Kenya’s wildlife parks. It is one of the “Big Five” animals and may be the most loved animal in all of Africa. You’ll see the huge elephants, which are called “pachyderms,” on their way to and from their drinking holes. The elephant eats plants, and you can often see it ripping off big branches of leaves to eat.

Elephants make up almost all of the animals in Samburu Park, which is a great thing to say. But in Amboseli National Park, a smaller park, there are so many elephants that you are sure to see them, and possibly more than once while you are there.

The African or Cape buffalo.

This fierce animal is the only one of the “Big Five” that is not threatened or vulnerable. Hunters always thought it was the most dangerous because it was easy to anger and would charge, especially if it was hurt.

Almost all of Kenya’s game parks have this unique and sometimes grumpy horned bovid.

The Shy and Unusual Rhino.

The big rhino is a sight to see. It has a huge, hulking body and a unique set of horns that grow from the bridge of its nose. Even though they look big and scary, rhinos are very shy, and it’s not always easy to find them in the wild.

The rhino is the most endangered of the “Big Five” animals, so special reserves have been set up to protect them from poachers and help the population grow again.

Most national parks have rhinos, but Nairobi National Park, Ol Pejeta, and Lake Nakuru are especially good places to see them.

These five different animals, each with its own story, will be the highlight of your Kenya safari and make you want to protect them so that future generations can enjoy them.
