Detailed Itinerary of 5 Days Tsavo and Amboseli Safari

Day 1: Nairobi – Amboseli National Park

Arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, meet a Focus East Africa Tours representative, and embark on a journey to Amboseli National Park – the most scenic national park in Kenya with a scenic backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro – the tallest mountain on the continent.

From Nairobi, it is a journey of approximately 3 hours to Amboseli National Park. On arrival, you will have a short game drive as you head to your lodge for check-in and lunch. In the afternoon, you will return to the park for an extensive game drive. Expect to see a variety of wildlife including giraffes, gazelles, leopards, lions, large herds of elephants, among others. As the sun sets, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Amboseli – Game drives and visit the local Maasai people (optional activity)

The entire day is dedicated to exploring Amboseli National Park on a full-day game drive. Amboseli National Park is worldly known as one of the best places to get up close to free- ranging elephants. During the game drives, expect to see these magnificent animals with impressive tusks. Other animals you will see include Cape buffalo, zebras, wildebeests, cheetahs, and impalas, among others.

Enjoy a picnic lunch and continue exploring the park till evening. Alternatively, you can go for an optional cultural experience with the Maasai people. Here you will be entertained by local dances and drama, interact with the elders, among other activities, giving you a deeper insight into their lives, culture and traditions.

Day 3: Amboseli – Tsavo West National Park

Check out of your lodge after breakfast and head to Tsavo West National Park, crossing the Great Lava flow of Mount Kilimanjaro (now a dormant volcano) and the Chyulu Hills. Arrive in time for lunch at your lodge and in the afternoon, proceed for an afternoon game drive and a visit to the Rhino Sanctuary, a haven for the area’s black rhinos. The sanctuary is open from 4 pm to 6 pm each day, providing visitors with a rare glimpse into the protected habitat of these threatened animals.

Day 4: Tsavo West – Game drives

Spend a full day on game drives in Tsavo West National Park – the largest park in Kenya, famous for its large herds of elephants. During the game drives, you will see several wildlife species such as Masai giraffes, lesser kudus, zebra, dik-dik, lions, leopards and cheetahs among others.

Tsavo West National Park is famous for its unique volcanic features, including Five Sisters – a five cone–shaped hills nestled in one area and resembling one another. The Chaumu and Shetani lava flows are also among the highlights of the park. During the game drive past Whistling Rock, the rocky hill that produces whistling sounds when there are strong winds.

Also, visit the stunning Mzima Springs where you will see hippos and crocodiles through the clear waters. As the sun sets, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Tsavo West – Game drive- Nairobi

Today is the last day of your safari in Kenya; after breakfast, you will exit the park with an en-route game drive as you head back to Nairobi. Your guide will drop you off either at your hotel or at the airport for your departure flight.
