Bisanadi National Reserve is a nature paradise untouched in the vast arid wilderness in the Isiola county in north of Kenya and Meru National Park close to the reserve. The park is comprised of hot and arid bush land a home to diverse wildlife species such as lions, African elephants, cheetahs, white rhinoceros, African buffaloes and is hoven of bird species with more than 400 among others.

Travelers on their visit to the reserve can go for boating and fishing at river Tana and the Rojewero rivers, you can as well enjoy camping in the African night stars in this tough and experience awesome night stay.

This national reserve lies in Isiolo county in Kenya, covering a total area of about 606 square kilometres semi-arid wilderness, characterised with savannah grasslands, swamps, forest and combretum thickets. Note, the reserve is located on the kina boarder dividing two local tribes the Bisanadi and Meru.Sitted in every remote area, travellers are recommended to always use 4x4wheel drive car for easy accessibility to the park.

 Bisanadi national Reserve was established in 1979 to protect a wide range of wildlife species and since then is under management of Kenya Wildlife Service ‘’KWS’’. The reserve gives animal freedom to roam out of Mount Meru without any poaching done.

Bird watching 

The national reserve is gifted with over 400 species of bird making it a true birders Kenya safari destination. Some of species to sight see include malachite eagle, peter’s fin foot, brown backed pecker, kingfisher, Huggins coarser mentioned few. The best birding time on tourist visit is in the morning and evening hours. But the best season of year to get rewarded is in wet season from April to May and November to December when migratory bird from Europe and North Africa are on arrive to the park while the residents are breeding thus giving you a memorable experience in life time.

Best Time to Visit

Bisanadi National Reserve is a remote area so it can be visited all year around but the best time to enjoy the reserve’s activities is in the drier months of June to October and December to March.

Where to Stay 

Unfortunately, the reserve doesn’t have accommodation facilities but you can do camping because camping sites are available with in the park for the tourists. Or else tourists can access accommodation facilities to the nearby town of Meru hotels like leopard rock safari lodge, leopard rock lodge and Rhino river camp among others.

Getting there 

Bisanadi national reserve can be accessed both by air or by road, when traveling by road it can be easily accessed through Meru national park by Murera gate.

Alternatively, you can organise a domestic flight from Wilson Airport to Korbessa airstrip close Mount Meru national park.
